Here is a hot spring trend that you won’t want to miss — floral chintz fabrics!
Recently U-fab Charlottesville was featured in an article in the March 2013 Cville Abode magazine. Writer Catherine West suggests “Pick one chair or settee to cover in a pretty floral to make a chic statement in any room. Give chintz a chance!” And we would have to agree! Just like any trend, chintz has made its way back around again. New color palettes modernize this classic style fabric. A great floral chintz is a perfect way to freshen up your room and add that bold statement that you are looking for.
What is chintz, you ask?
Chintz was originally a calico fabric that was either painted, stained, or woodblock printed in India during the 1600’s to 1800’s. These fabrics were very pricy, but quickly became a highly imported fabric around Europe. Elsie de Wolfe first introduced the use of chintz fabric in the states in the 1900’s as a cost effective, yet high quality fabric for decorating. Floral chintz again became very popular in the 1980’s, used in large quantities to give a room the fresh English country look. Many different patterns were layered on furniture, draperies and even as wall paper!
While bold geometric patterns are fun, chintz has proven the test of time and will add the fresh statement that is perfect for the finishing touches for a room. Thinking about brightening up your living room with a pop of a colorful floral pillow, just in time for spring! A great floral chintz print can liven up the back of your plain book shelves or give an old simple lampshade a new look. They also make great pillow patterns and dining room seat covers as well. With a large selection of fabrics to choose from, you are sure to find the perfect fit for your home!
