Accent Lighting at u-fab

December 1, 2022 by admin

Did you know that lighting can completely transform a room AND affect your emotions? It’s true: the right accent lighting can make you feel more relaxed and productive, and can elevate your mood. Read more and find out why layering matters (and how to use it to achieve the best lighting in your space!)

Although most of us consider accent lighting an afterthought, any designer will tell you that it is an essential element to consider when decorating your space. Lamps and light fixtures do so much more than illuminate dark corners. They have the power to make a statement, complement your style, and, most importantly, determine how you feel in your space as you move through your day.

(Mixing light sources is the best way to achieve a cozy space that encourages relaxation and productivity throughout the day. Here, an overhead fixture illuminates the center of the room while table lamps provide coziness and a candle adds ambience. Image courtesy of Uttermost.)

Most designers agree that every room should have multiple sources of light, including accent and task lights in addition to overhead fixtures. Layering illumination sources in this way creates dimension, which adds interest and functionality to your space.

New York-based Lighting Designer Nathan Orsman recommends using floor and table lamps to add an extra layer of light next to seating, and accent lights to highlight artwork. And for extra ambience, he added, “a candle never hurt.”

Speaking of ambience, the bulbs you choose for your fixtures can make a world of difference in how your lighting looks and feels. For a warm, inviting light that won’t feel too harsh, look for bulbs labeled “warm white” in the 2,700-3,000 kelvin range. Additionally, individual dimmers allow you to adjust light levels as the natural light shifts throughout the day and season.

We can help you find the perfect mix of accent lighting to transform your space. Stop by our Richmond or Charlottesville showrooms to shop our growing selection of accent lighting (and candles) and brighten things up!
