Back in November, I had a little post about a Volunteering experience I was becoming involved with, SOHO (Space of Her Own). A program that links 12, 6th grade girls living in public housing with 12 young women who mentor them and work with them towards a room makeover that will give them a space they truly deserve. The past several months have been so rewarding in so many ways through this outstanding program, we’ve explored several studio’s at the Visual Arts center, and made some pretty outstanding projects for these special room make-overs.
However, the program is very limited in terms of budget, and while U-Fab has donated fabric, pillows, and other supplies to the program there are many things SOHO is still in need of. Basic (teen) room items being the essential. So if you happen to be upgrading your teens room for spring, or doing some spring cleaning, please consider donating home-goods towards this great cause.
Some items that we are looking for:
Dressers (with attached mirrors or extra storage on top), Storage furniture – Bookshelves, Desks & Chairs etc. Most of this furniture must be small, it should all be sturdy and preferably cosmetically appealing. Other things that would be helpful, bright rugs, Bean bag chairs or butterfly chairs, fun floor lamps, clip lights, gently used teen/colorful bedding, teen decor accessories etc.
If you have any items you would like to donate towards SOHO, please shoot me an email to : firstname.lastname@example.org
Below are some photos you can find from the SOHO blog, to follow along on the rest of our journey.
