Seamstress Brenda invited us into her magnificent Ashland home. This home backs up onto the South Anna River, features a private wooded lot and gorgeous “Williamsburg” details through out. Brenda is a professional seamstress making everything from custom slip covers to detailed curtains and draperies. Her years around the sewing machine were reflected tenfold with a home filled with fabrications everywhere you looked. It is always so inspiring to me to see how different each home tour is, and how much our clients really love their fabric. This home was no exception. Enjoy the tour!
I dream of having this sort of curb appeal one day, and a circular driveway to boot!
The formal living room is lined with furniture, Including five chairs and two sofa’s and I believe every piece uses a slipcover hand sewn by Brenda.
A collection of gold mirrors in varying scale and patina, makes for a great focal wall.
Loving the contrast piping and pillows on this arm chair.
Would you take a look at those wide plank floors? I love them.
These plaid chairs look equally comfortable as they do beautiful.
Gold mirrors aren’t the only collection in this house, Bunnies also make several charming appearances.
A slip covered bench makes for a charming nook in the corner.
There is a reason they call this the sun room in Brenda’s home, and it’s not just because of the gorgeous over-sized windows.
A great mix of black, white and yellow gives this wicker furniture such a whimsical look.
I even thought the office space was charming.
Brenda admits she has an up-cycled weakness like myself, and says most of the furniture are second hand finds she made fabulous. Don’t these mix and match chairs look like they belong together?
I love the fun use of fabric on this ottoman.
The kitchen is full of charm, look at these gorgeous dining chairs, complimented perfectly by those striped roman shades.
An antique bakers rack anchors the space, but the rich wood dining set really has me swooning.
Brenda doesn’t miss a detail, most of the knobs throughout the house feature fun patterns.
The Kitchen feels so cozy and warm. I can certainly imagine enjoying coffee and the paper at the island.
Hank is the star of the home, a mix of part Corgi, Beagle and Border Collie, he has more personality than all three breeds combined.
Another shot of the inviting kitchen.
Brenda’s dining room is a gorgeous space for entertaining. I imagine a beautiful thanksgiving dinner will happen here in a few short weeks.
I love the pink accents in the room, this chair being my favorite.
The architecture of this home was also quite lovely, look at the front door “knob” featuring three locks and an antique key.
The master bedroom was serene and blue, featuring more blends of beautiful fabrics.
A detailed shot of her perfectly made bed.
I loved this chaise, seeming like the perfect place to find some R&R when you need it.
Another charming bench, Brenda mixes fabrics like it is second nature to her.
I love the different textures these pillows bring to the room.
This gorgeous embroidery, a gift from Brenda’s daughter, finishes out the space.
Even the bath rooms pull playful pops of color with Brenda’s custom shower curtains.
The guest room reminded me of all things shabby chic…
From this darling girls chair..
to the sweet pink and green paisley..
To another darling bench..
To a cozy spot to read a book, Rachel Ashwell would be proud.
Back outside, the wooded back yard oasis, features a sprawling deck with views of the South Anna River. Fall is already making its appearance with a few wayward leaves.
And the back yard wouldn’t be complete without a few of these.
Back in the den hank cozy’s up by the fireplace, protecting the main entry.
Because Hank, is a super dog.
Thanks so much for having us Brenda! We absolutely adore your space and are so happy to share it with our readers.
