Washington DC Designer Show House – 2013

April 24, 2013 by carley

Travis and I decided to take a little road trip to DC this past weekend to visit the DC Design House, benefiting Children’s National Medical Center.

This massive 14,000 sqft house, had four levels, an is on the market for somewhere around 14 million dollars

When I saw the gorgeous white marble floors, I knew we were in for a show. And the house certainly didn’t disappoint.

We enjoyed the weight of this unusual chair in the library, by David Mitchell Interior Design.
This weighty geometric table also caught my eye.
But my favorite part of this room was this rug, isn’t it gorgeous?
The show piece in the family room by Victoria Neale Interiors, was this wooden barrel chair.
But the straight line tufted sofa, was also a thing of beauty.
The kitchen by Jessica Parker of GTM Architects, was a tranquil space.
I loved the lighting above the island, and would you take a look at the size of that fridge?
I couldn’t resist opening the door to this massive refrigerator.
The morning room, by Iantha Carley Interiors had a gorgeous jute fabric running along the top of the room. Paired with those big bold curtains, this room was definitely a hit with us fabric folks.
Another shot of the drapery fabric on the pillows.
We though the lighting in the Side Hall/Bar was so interesting.
And here is a sketch of the bar, designed by Andrea Houck of A. Houck Designs
Can you believe the wood on this base is faux paint, and we loved that the hardware is an inventive use of drapery tie backs.
The Powder room, by Charles C. Almonte looks familiar to me, does it remind you of Heather’s Home Tour?
I did love that bold contrast in the wallpaper, and black and white tile is never a bad idea.
The dining room by Nestor Santa-Cruz had an interesting wall with handmade paper tiling it.
Which brings us to the second floor, the Lounge by Lorna Gross of Savant Interior Design.
I do believe this was my favorite room. I love the bold use of color, that rug, that chair, that art!
The artists rendering.
I also enjoyed the nail-head details on the walls.
Adjacent to the lounge is the lower level dining room designed by Scott Cooke Designs.
My favorite detail is the massive roman shade on the window.
Of course with the light behind it, my picture did not capture it’s beauty, but you can see what a great parklike setting the house is situated on.

Now we are on the third floor, and feeling very warm in the hallway designed by Claire Schwab Interior Design.
We enjoyed the wallpaper and the carving detail on the hall table.
Enter into the Teenage boy’s room by Regan Billingsley Interiors. I love the vintage charm of the suitcases, especially because we have a similar theme in our son’s room.
I loved the art, especially these fun boston terrier prints
This acrylic side table filled with feathers also grabbed our attention.
And the sweet graphic desk commanded attention.
The adjoining bathroom, had playful letters on the wall, strategically placed backwards.
So when viewing in the mirror, you have a forward reading message.
Enter into the Twins’ Nursery by Nancy Twomey of Finnigan’s Moon Interiors.
I was drawn in immediately by the sweet crochet mobile.
Having previously worked for a company specializing in nursery design, (PoshTots) I fixated in this room for longer than the rest. I appreciated their very simple Corsican cribs and the other details that go into a fine designed nursery.
Like this fun sitting area.
And this quirky art.
Now we enter into the Master Bedroom by Richmond’s own Susan Jamieson of Bridget Beari Designs.
We loved everything about this room, the gold, the citron, the purples, the grays, the zebra.
The details.
The elaborate built-in book cases

And the ceiling!
How about a built  in TV in your bathroom mirror? By Ihomeintegration.
Katherine Vernot-Jonas designed a guest room, that also seemed reminiscent of a home-tour we recently took.
And check out that Oscar de la Renta Chair!

We didn’t even get a shot of every room included in this tour! Please plan a trip to visit this home and take in the beauty yourself, all proceeds benefit charity. This show house is located at 2507 Foxhall Road, NW, Washington, DC and the public hours are: Saturdays-Sundays 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays-Fridays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $25, find out more by visiting the DC Design House website.
