A Philosophy of Balance
Amy’s design approach is rooted in intention—knowing where to invest, where to get creative, and how to make it all feel cohesive.
“I like to put more money into upholstery and custom window treatments and save on case goods and accessories,” she explains. “Mixing in vintage or thrifted pieces brings in character, and DIY projects are great—as long as you know your limits.” For example, Amy loves painting and wallpapering herself, but when it comes to custom pillows, window treatments, or table skirts, she always goes the professional route, ensuring a polished, tailored finish.
This thoughtful approach makes great design feel within reach. From statement lighting to meaningful heirlooms, every carefully chosen element in her home tells a story. It’s not about chasing trends—it’s about curating a space that feels collected over time and deeply personal.
Kitchen: Style Meets Function
Amy turned this one-of-a-kind cabinet into a hardworking coffee bar, complete with curated dishware, clever DIY shelving, and personal touches that bring the space to life.
The kitchen’s most charming corner features a one-of-a-kind cabinet from Curated Furnishings, which Amy cleverly repurposed into a well-stocked coffee bar. Inside, it stores her KitchenAid mixer and a collection of seasonal dessert plates—small, thoughtful touches she uses to elevate everyday meals.
Above the cabinet, open shelving becomes a curated moment of its own. Gold-painted brackets support a layered mix of Parisian photography and beautiful bistro ware. In a playful DIY twist, Amy created custom “bar rails” from painted chess pieces threaded onto wooden dowels—proof that personality and creativity go a long way.
Wallpaper by Cynthia Rowley for Tempaper brings a lively, unexpected backdrop to the space. Nearby, custom window treatments add both softness and structure: a perfectly tailored cornice over the sink (designed by Amy and fabricated by U-Fab), along with coordinating drapes (both in black and white “Agate” fabric from Robert Allen) and Roman shades in the bay window.
Around the dining table, Amy updated her space with reupholstered side chairs in a Genieve Gorder outdoor fabric and stripped the painted tabletop down to its natural grain, revealing a relaxed, lived-in charm.
Living Room: Comfortable and Collected
Amy’s living room pairs luxe CR Laine sofas with a thrifted coffee table and vintage accessories, proving that high-end and budget finds can coexist beautifully.
Anchored by a pair of custom CR Laine sofas in a versatile “Granite” fabric, the living room strikes a thoughtful balance between cozy comfort and refined sophistication. A neutral palette sets the stage for layered patterns, rich textiles, and a curated mix of textures that add depth without overwhelming the space.
The coffee table was a thrift store find Amy refinished herself. The fireplace surround showcases her hands-on approach: she had the surround extended for a more dramatic focal point (and to provide more space for accessories), hand-painted the driftwood finish, and created the templates for Binswanger Glass to cut the custom mirror inserts. Above the mantel, a Pottery Barn mirror and vintage brass candlesticks pair effortlessly with test-tube inspired stem vases from Curated Furnishings.
Patterned wallpaper and tailored window treatments frame the space with softness and visual interest—both reflecting Amy’s love of layered prints and textures. Just beside the sofa, the petite but practical Bordeaux drink table offers both function and flair—a perfect spot for a cocktail, a favorite book, or a small collection of decor. It’s the kind of space that feels layered, lived-in, and completely intentional.
Porch: Relaxed and Inviting
Amy’s porch is all about relaxed layering—with U-Fab pillows, vintage finds, and a striped floor that adds playful personality to this year-round retreat.
Amy’s porch is a blend of comfort and creativity. The two curved sofa pieces were scored at a consignment store and layered with pillows from Curated Furnishings. The coffee table, an antique store find transformed with a fresh coat of paint and peel-and-stick wallpaper, adds a unique touch, while oversized pottery, natural grasses, and a mirror from U-Fab bring height and visual balance. A custom table skirt made from U-Fab fabrics adds a tailored touch to the space.
Sentimental touches—like the pair of vintage concrete dogs gifted by her mother and a cherished chair built by her great-grandfather—infuse the space with warmth and character, making it truly one of a kind.
The striped floor, hand-painted in Behr Broadway and Greige, and the IKEA curtains (secured with simple nails) show Amy’s knack for simple solutions that make a big impact.
Den: The New Library
What was once a seldom-used dining room is now a cozy, welcoming den and reading nook. Amy transformed the space with Craigslist bookshelves she refinished herself, creating a built-in look that feels both custom and collected. Overhead, a wallpapered ceiling and luxurious light fixtures introduce unexpected pattern and a playful touch, proving that even the most overlooked surfaces can make a bold statement.
A green velvet sofa grounds the room with rich color and softness, while layered window treatments from U-Fab frame the space and add a tailored, finished look. On the shelf, oversized artwork displaying a painting of the French phrase “tout est possible”—meaning “anything is possible.” The phrase was discovered by photographer Rebecca Plotnik, spray-painted on the side of a building in Paris, and is a fitting motto for a space that embodies Amy’s fearless and creative approach to design.
A former dining room turned cozy den, this space features U-Fab window treatments and a wallpapered ceiling that adds depth and a touch of drama.
Amy’s approach to custom window treatments: layers, textures, and bold prints that elevate each room with softness and sophistication.
Primary Bedroom: Serene and Sophisticated
In the primary bedroom, calming colors and tailored U-Fab window treatments create a quiet, restful retreat—proof that soft details make a strong impact.
Amy’s primary bedroom is designed for rest and comfort, with a calm, neutral palette and thoughtful details throughout. The walls are painted Benjamin Moore “Revere Pewter,” paired with framed panels of forest wallpaper from Anthropologie that add just the right amount of pattern.
Custom window treatments from U-Fab frame the space and add softness, while coordinating pillows tie everything together. A classic bed and light fixture from Pottery Barn bring a timeless feel, grounding the room with simple, clean lines.
Primary Bathroom: Vintage Charm Meets Modern Touches
Amy’s primary bath blends whimsy and vintage charm with a clawfoot tub, floral accents, and bold wallpaper that ties it all together.
In the bathroom, a clawfoot tub—rescued from someone’s yard—adds a touch of unexpected charm and character to the space. Its vintage appeal is beautifully contrasted by bold, graphic wallpaper by Tempaper, which creates a striking backdrop without overwhelming the room.
Every element in the space, from the Anthropologie light fixture to the (maintenance-free!) faux succulent arrangement and carefully chosen accessories, was selected with intention. The result is a bathroom that blends timeless elements with a modern twist, creating a space that's both inviting and visually captivating.
Final Thoughts: Curated with Heart
Amy’s home reflects her design philosophy: creating spaces that are beautiful, functional, and meant to be lived in. Every detail, from custom CR Laine seating and U-Fab window treatments to vintage finds and DIY touches, is carefully chosen to reflect her unique style.
At the heart of her approach is the idea of mixing high-end and low-cost items to create a balanced, personalized space. “I like to invest in upholstery and custom window treatments,” Amy shares. “I save on case goods and accessories.” She also believes in mixing old with new—whether it’s adding custom pillows to complement a cherished heirloom rug or blending vintage pieces with modern finds.
One of her key design principles? The importance of custom window treatments. “You’ll never regret spending a little more on custom window treatments,” she says. “They really elevate a room.” Amy’s home is a perfect example of how mixing high and low, old and new, can create a space that is not only stylish but also livable and personal.
