Our Story
u-fab began in 2008 as a humble upholstery shop and discount fabric store, located just past the edge of Richmond’s Carytown district. Locally owned and operated by Travis Hamilton, u-fab quickly settled into its niche as Richmond’s premier choice for re-upholstery and textile-based home decor. As the demand for uniquely tailored residential and commercial services grew, u-fab began steadily expanding beyond its 1,100 square foot storefront on Robinson Street into larger spaces and a second storefront in Charlottesville.
Today, u-fab’s 28,000 square foot showroom is located in Richmond’s Near West End and houses thousands of designer home decor fabrics, a state-of-the art upholstery and sewing workroom, and a handpicked selection of customizable furniture and home furnishings from the most reputable brands in the home decor industry. Though we closed our Charlottesville storefront in 2023, we continue to serve the Charlottesville area through personalized in-home Design Consultations.
