A Look Back at the 2018 RSL Designer House: Holly Lawn Estate

As this year's Designer House event coincides with our 15th anniversary, we thought it would be fun to take a trip down memory lane and revisit our spaces in some previous Designer Houses. As you might know, the Richmond Symphony League (RSL) hosts its Designer House fundraising event biennially, selecting a new location and group of designers each time. u-fab interiors has been a proud participant in this prestigious event since 2013, and our rooms in those homes hold a special place as some of our favorite projects to date. 2018’s Designer House was hosted at the historic Holly Lawn estate, a Queen Anne style gem nestled in the heart of the Hermitage Road Historic District. Once again, this event was a true testament to the talent and creative genius of Virginia's top interior designers. Join us as we take a look back at Holly Lawn!

A Historic Gem

The Richmond Symphony League (RSL) thoughtfully selected the Holly Lawn estate as the venue for the 2018 Designer House. This stately Queen Anne style home, constructed in 1901, has a storied past. Once the cherished residence of the Richmond Council of Garden Clubs and listed on the National Historic Register of Places, Holly Lawn exuded stunning architecture and timeless charm. Featuring five bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, a sun porch, a library, a living room, a formal dining room, a spacious foyer, a kitchen with a butler's pantry, and a sweeping Southern-style front porch, it's no wonder this estate captured the hearts of the RSL.

The Guest Bedroom

Designer Will Chambers took on the task of reimagining the guest bedroom, and his design was a breath of fresh air. He described it as "a fresh take on the blue-and-white classic." Inspired by the richly patterned blue drapery fabric, he infused the space with Moroccan vibes, creating an atmosphere that felt well-traveled and worldly.

The custom upholstered headboard and plush white bedding, adorned with an array of silk, linen, and cotton blend pillows, provided a cozy retreat for any guest. The room's accessories combined rustic elements with a touch of glamour, resulting in a unique and collected look that was both whimsical and fresh.

The 2018 Designer House held at Holly Lawn estate was an impressive tribute to history and design. As we reflect on changing times and ever-evolving trends, we’re endlessly inspired by the incredible talent and varied visions brought to life by Virginia's foremost interior designers.
